This monograph, entitled OUTSIDE OF TIME, was produced to mark the exhibition BEYOND SIGHT, which opened last autumn at the Kunstraum Heilig Geist in Essen, and is published by the Kunstraum Heilig Geist, the Kunsthalle Rostock and the curators Isabella Greenberg and Gesa Zipp. The publication is dedicated to the multi-layered work of the artist Anna Bogouchevskaia and takes the eponymous large-scale sculpture OUTSIDE OF TIME as its starting point for an in-depth exploration of her artistic thinking.

For many years, Bogouchevskaia has been developing a sculptural body of work of extraordinary formal originality. Her works navigate the boundaries between observation of nature and imagination, between scientific precision and poetic transformation. Through structures that are both monumental and fragile, she opens up visual worlds that appear at once familiar and alien.

The large-scale sculpture *OUTSIDE OF TIME* encapsulates the central themes of her work. The starting point is the observation of water formations that can only be experienced through photographic or cinematographic techniques, in particular through slow-motion technology. Against the backdrop of a globalised present, in which the relationship between civilisation and nature has become increasingly unbalanced, Bogouchevskaya’s works focus on processes of change, states of transition and the vulnerability of natural beauty. The artist explores the limits of what can be experienced whilst simultaneously reflecting on the conditions of our vision. Her works evoke an atmosphere of temporal limbo in which permanence and transience, growth and dissolution, the present and the future become indistinguishable.

The publication brings together essays, extensive visual material and a catalogue raisonné, providing, for the first time, an overview of the artist’s work to date. It documents key groups of works and lines of development, whilst also offering in-depth perspectives on the aesthetic and conceptual issues that shape Anna Bogouchevskaya’s artistic practice.
